OBITUARY FOR MARGARET WELDON
After a long battle with cancer, Margaret Weldon entered into eternal rest on April 23, 2017. She was born on January 4, 1956 in Norwalk, CT to the late Abraham Weldon, Sr. and the late Julia Mae Shaw Weldon.
Margaret attended Norwalk Public Schools and graduated from Brien McMahon High School in 1974 where she was a prominent athlete in basketball, volleyball and track & field. Her athletic prowess earned her a 4-year scholarship to Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA where she established many records on the collegiate circuit and in AAU competitions in track & field. She graduated in 1978 with Bachelor of Science degree.
Margaret had a creative side, was proficient in arts & crafts and event decorations, in which she held various workshops for seniors and children, and provided services for friends and family. She spent the last 14 years employed by the Bridgeport Public Schools as a Special Education Paraprofessional and Homeschool Coordinator.
A faithful member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church family, both in Norwalk and Bridgeport, Margaret was President of the Blanche Wideman Missionary Society, a member of the Bethel Bridgeport Senior Usher Board, Supervisor of the Bethel Bridgeport Junior Usher Board and a member of the Tribe of Judah Choir.
Her life partner, Haywood Hall, predeceased her. Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Renita (Terrance) Crawford and Julia Weldon-Hall; two brothers, Leroy (Elnora) Joseph and Abraham (Sharon) Weldon, Jr.; eight sisters, Mary Ann (Paul) Rice, Ruth Weldon, Johnnie Mae “Sissy” Weldon, Judy Canty, Lucille (William) Weldon, Paula Weldon, Shirley (Cornelius) Vines and Lisa Lane; Two grandsons Ethan Benjamin Crawford and Ian Abraham Crawford; eighteen nieces and nephews, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and special friends Sally Henderson-Gregory, Kathy Davis-Corley and a second mom, Mother Mae.
